A 🎶 Noteworthy Day in 1961
I try to stick to local, but locals love beauty so, hopefully, this works.
On this day (January 27) in 1961, Leontyne Price debuted at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in Verdi’s Il Trovatore. The final curtain call lasted 35 minutes. Listening to and watching Leontyne Price, as Lenore, sing the aria “D’amor full’ali rosee” (On the rosy wings of love) explains why. And why she received a 45 minute ovation. Ms Price is still alive (98) and recently said she still sings every day.
