Town Hall · Op-ed
Special Town Council Work Meeting
This Friday, April 3, Noon, at CCC
The meeting this Friday is to discuss potential changes toTown Council meeting procedures and protocols. This is absolutely fabulous. Utah state code requires that there be procedures and protocols which should be followed but is not specific what those must be thus allowing communities to choose those most effective for them. Excellent.
PLEASE NOTE: this is a work meeting which the public may attend but there is no opportunity for public comment (appropriate for a work meeting). HOWEVER, one can and should write to them. One would assume that the more ideas, especially if they are consistent in nature, the more Council’s discussion will reflect community needs and desires. Make your ideas and thoughts known.
Some improvements in procedures and protocols include:
- Time limits are necessary, but perhaps three minutes is too short.
- After public comments, brief responses — more than a curt “thank you” — from Town Council would be both courteous and informative.
- An opportunity for the public to speak after deliberation, but before a decision is finalized, would be effective for both citizens and Council members.
