Getting to Know You — Coming Full Circle
It was such a pleasure getting to know Lillie Baiardi for the last issue. She has been a friend for a while, but having to get the details was so fun. She is well worth getting to know. I promise if you choose to do the same for someone in your circle of friends, or even someone you have never spoken with before, you will feel rewarded. If you want to just jot down what you learned, or even record it, I can help get it into article form. I know there are people more adept at doing that, I just don’t have the influence to get them to do it. Vounteers???
I have asked Louse Excel to do a “Getting to Know You” article about David Pettit, her husband. I just learned about their relationship or I would’ve asked months ago. She is a writer and he is an artist, a famous photographer of whom I had heard long before moving here, so I am excited for that.
I reiterate my belief that a local newspaper is a benefit for this community. It is getting clearer and clearer that there are people who will not support this effort because I am the one who started it. I can only say what I have said before, I am not doing this for me. I would be happy to support someone else’s efforts to do this.
Mayor Bruno repeated an article she had previously written in a facebook post. It was about not believing rumors. I agree that rumors should not be believed until you check them out for yourself.
I would ask that you either contact me and chat with me in person, give me the benefit of courtesy, and not automatically believe things unkind, even if it comes from a trusted source. Besides, if you talk to me, I can give you a much longer list. I know stuff not even my severest critics know. But regardless of my inadequacies, a local newspaper should be welcomed by every resident. If I am stopping you from wanting to subscribe, I repeat, find someone else. They will have my full support.
If you want this to fail because I am the one who initiated it, please tell me. I bet we can find a path forward despite me being me.
When I first took this on, Louise Excell remarked, “Oh, the possibilities!” I share her enthusiasm. Yet I also understand that those possibilities are best achieved through shared effort, not by one person acting as the sole “chief cook and bottle washer.”
If you cannot find that someone to take over a local newspaper, or start one, then help this endeavor by contributing an article now and then, even just a comment, a paragraph. Feel free to call me out. Feel even more free to tell us the good and interesting about someone in town.
Oh, I know, how about a “Getting to Know You” column ???????
