The Past Town Council Work Meeting

Last Friday, April 3, CCC, noon

Ever gone sailing? it is a wonderful feeling to use the wind to propel you forward, and with clever adjustments you can go the direction you want regardless the direction of the wind. But… when the wind has been knocked out of your sails, when you hit the doldrums (what an expressive word for that despondent listlessness that results when there’s no wind at all) you can do nothing, go nowhere, just sit in a slump of depression. Best hope you have an oar.

I was so happy that Town Council was going to revisit their procedures and protocols for meetings. My hopes were high. My thoughts sailed along on the winds of optimism. Then I watched the meeting.

Perhaps I was so much of a Pollyanna that when my expectations were not met, I deduced more negative than there was. But perhaps it was as ‘us vs them-ish' as I perceived.

I am hoping that at least some of you will watch the meeting, the first hour should be plenty. I am hoping it was not as depressing as I found it to be. I want to be proven wrong. I am considering throwing that oar away. What’s the point?

There will be more on this next issue, hopefully with the better perspective of other viewpoints. Maybe even someone on Council will convince me they do consider citizens of Springdale as compatriots, even friends, not simply annoyances to be dealt with as we try to ask them gotcha questions, ask for stupid things to be put in the minutes, and ask questions they can’t possibly be asked to know on the spot.

For some reason, this song, Us and Them, by Pink Floyd came to mind: https://www.youtube.com › watch?v=nDbeqj-1XOo
