Fasten Your Seat Belts

This last week saw a special town council meeting, a regular town council meeting, and a ribbon cutting ceremony. The Special town council meeting was to discuss what’s to go on the two acres. The regular meeting agenda was brief and simple but a lot of residents showed up, not in regards to the agenda, but to express dissatisfaction with the 70 foot cell tower that’s going in by the Red Hawk neighborhood.

A lot of locals contributed to this issue of TSS. That’s a good thing, a great thing. But it will take more like an hour to an hour and a half to read this issue. Doesn’t seem like 1½ hours a week is too much to devote to knowing your community. But you can always just read parts.

It is not possible to do a play by play for the two Town Council meetings. I found them potent, especially the Wednesday regular meeting where so many showed up in solidarity and it is only about an hour long. A brief outline for the meetings is on page 9 of this issue. The audio for the special meeting and the audio/visual for the regular meeting can be accessed here: https://www.youtube.com/@SpringdaleTownPublicMeetings

So much that needs saying by so many and so much that needs unpacking.

Let’s get to it.

More About the Recent Town Council Meeting

The first resident to speak about her disappointment that the cell tower would likely be going in was soft-spoken and respectful. Near the end of her remarks, she voiced a troubling concern: that Red Hawk, because it…

Butch Cassidy 10K/5K Road Closures

The Butch Cassidy 10k/5k on Saturday, November 14th will be here before you know it. This traditional event will require road closures on SR-9 Highway from 8:30 am to approximately 10:45 am, starting on SR-9 near the Driftwood Lodge in Springdale, down SR-9 to Bridge Road in Rockville. Grafton Road to the finish line in Grafton will also be closed for the race. Those hours on that day would be a good time to NOT use SR-9.
